Bojnurd; Abolfazl and Saman Eskandarian, Two Kurmanji Kurd Cousins Detained in January, Sentenced to Imprisonment, Flogging, and Cash Fine

August 4, 2026 – "Abolfazl Eskandarian," 23 years old, and "Saman Eskandarian," 19 years old, two Kurmanji Kurd citizens from Bojnurd in North Khorasan Province and cousins who were arrested during the January 2026 protests, were recently sentenced in two separate cases by the Revolutionary and Criminal Courts of Bojnurd County each to 2 years and 1 day of discretionary imprisonment, 74 lashes, and a cash fine of 22 million Tomans.

An informed source, confirming this news, told Kurdpa: "Abolfazl Eskandarian" and "Saman Eskandarian" were sentenced in one case by a branch of the Revolutionary Court of Bojnurd County, presided over by Judge "Izanlou," on charges of "propaganda against the system" and "assembly and collusion against national security" to 2 years and 1 day of discretionary imprisonment each.

According to this source, these two Kurdish citizens were also sentenced in another case by a branch of the Criminal Court of Bojnurd County on charges of "disrupting public order and peace" and "resisting officers while performing their duties" to 74 lashes and a cash fine of 22 million Tomans each.

These verdicts were verbally communicated to them in early July 2026.

On January 4, 2026, "Abolfazl Eskandarian" and "Saman Eskandarian" were arrested following a raid by security forces on their home without presenting a judicial warrant and transferred to an unknown location. After four days of detention in an unknown location, during which they were subjected to physical torture while blindfolded and handcuffed, they were transferred to Bojnurd Prison, and finally, after one month of arbitrary detention, they were temporarily released on bail on February 3, 2026.

Throughout the entire period of arbitrary detention, these two Kurdish citizens were deprived of the right to access a lawyer and family visits.
