February 6, 2026; Naser Bakrzadeh, a Kurdish prisoner held in the Central Prison of Urmia, has been sentenced to death for the third time by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia on the charge of “espionage for Israel,” despite the verdict being overturned twice by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court.

Sidad Shirzad, one of the lawyers for this Kurdish prisoner's case, wrote by publishing a post on his personal social media page: “Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia, despite the death sentence being overturned twice by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court, issued the death sentence for Bakrzadeh for the third time and notified me and my colleagues (Amir Raisian and Nihad Irandoost) on Tuesday. The issuance of this verdict comes while in the third death judgment, the numerous flaws mentioned by the Supreme Court and the reasoning of its Branch 39 still remain, and Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia paid no attention to them. Previously, the judges of the Supreme Court, in two different rulings and for various reasons, did not find the charge of espionage for Israel to be established, and the death sentence had been overturned.”
