Sonqor; Arbitrary Detention of “Kiumars Vaezi,” Teacher and Former Political Prisoner
January 5, 2026; In the continuation of the wave of arbitrary detentions aimed at establishing an atmosphere of repression and security over society, coinciding with the popular protests that began in January 2026, on the evening of Monday, January 5, 2026, “Kiumars Vaezi,” a teacher and former political prisoner, was detained by security forces without the presentation of a judicial warrant and transferred to an unknown location.
“Kiumars Vaezi” had previously been detained during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” revolutionary uprising.
According to information received by “Kurdpa,” this detention was carried out arbitrarily, and so far, there is no information available regarding his place of custody or his status.
“Kiumars Vaezi,” son of “Hossein,” a teacher from Sonqor and Kolyai County, was detained on Sunday, October 9, 2022, during a raid by security forces on his home without a judicial warrant; after the interrogation phases, he was released temporarily on bail until the end of the judicial proceedings. The hearing for his case was held on November 15, 2022, in Branch 2 of the Kermanshah Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge “Masoud Nouri.” Ultimately, on January 9, 2023, Branch 2 of the Kermanshah Revolutionary Court sentenced “Kiumars Vaezi” to one year in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the system” and five years in prison on the charge of “sedition and inciting people”; a verdict that was communicated to him and his co-defendant, “Ali Hossein Shamayeli,” in recent days. Following this case, on January 30, 2023, “Kiumars Vaezi” announced through a video that the sentence against him had also been upheld by the Court of Appeals.
