On the evening of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, "Khezer (Shamal) Rasoul-Movat," a former political prisoner from Mahabad, was arrested by security forces at his personal residence and transferred to an unknown location.

According to an informed source to Kurdpa, security forces raided the home of this Kurdish activist and arrested him without the presentation of a judicial warrant.

Until the time of publication of this news, no information is available regarding the reason for the detention or the charges brought against Mr. Rasoul-Movat.

"Khezer (Shamal) Rasoul-Movat," a civil activist and former political prisoner, was first arrested in August 1999 and was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad to three years of executory imprisonment and five years of suspended imprisonment. He was released on parole after serving two years of executory imprisonment but was deprived of continuing his studies at the Master's level despite passing the entrance exams.

This political prisoner was arrested on February 26, 2013, following participation in a gathering in support of the "Shinabad" students in front of the Mahabad Department of Education and was interrogated for three months in the detention centers of the Intelligence Administration of Mahabad and Urmia.

In October 2013, without the right to access a chosen lawyer, this Kurdish political prisoner was sentenced to 5 years in prison by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad, presided over by Judge "Javadi-Kia," on the charge of "acting against national security." The issued verdict was upheld exactly one month later on December 18 of the same year by Branch 10 of the Urmia Court of Appeals.

On March 8, 2014, he was exiled to Urmia Prison for unknown reasons and was returned to Mahabad Prison in April 2014. In the continuation of pressures against this Kurdish political prisoner, he was exiled from Mahabad Prison to Miandoab Prison on September 11, 2016, by the order of the Prosecutor and the head of Mahabad Prison.
