Saqqez Prison: 3-Year Sentence for “Majid Ajabi” and More Than One Year of Imprisonment Without Leave Due to Non-Cooperation with Security Agencies
September 22, 2025; Majid Ajabi, a Kurdish political prisoner held in Saqqez Prison, was transferred to the Saqqez Central Prison more than a year ago following the issuance of a three-year discretionary imprisonment sentence. During this period, he has been deprived of all his legal rights, including even one hour of leave. The reason for this situation is stated as his refusal to cooperate with security agencies.
According to an informed source to Kurdpa; Mr. Ajabi was previously a member of one of the Kurdish parties and returned to Iran after receiving an official “Letter of Safe Conduct” (Aman-nameh). However, due to pressure from the Saqqez Intelligence Department and his rejection of any request for cooperation, he faced the fabrication of a security case and was sentenced to three years in prison, then transferred to Saqqez Central Prison to serve the sentence.
The source adds: Mr. Ajabi returned to Iran in late 2023/early 2024 and was subsequently sentenced to three years of discretionary imprisonment by a branch of the Saqqez Revolutionary Court in the spring of 2024 on charges of “cooperation and membership in one of the Kurdish parties” as well as “propaganda against the system,” due to his non-cooperation with security agencies.
Ultimately, he was transferred to Saqqez Central Prison at the beginning of September 2024 to execute the sentence. Since then, under continuous pressure from the Saqqez Intelligence Department, he has been deprived of rights such as leave, conditional release, and other legal rights of prisoners based on the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Majid Ajabi, a Kurdish citizen from Saqqez, is married and has three children.
