Sanandaj: Threatening Messages to Citizens: Activities in Virtual and Public Spaces Are Crimes

January 4, 2026; In the continuation of the suppression of popular protests and the imposition of a security atmosphere on society, coinciding with the protests that began in December 2025/January 2026, threatening text messages have been sent to citizens. In these messages, any "activity in virtual and public spaces" is considered "action against national security and disruption of public order," and citizens have been threatened with criminal prosecution and punishment.

According to the text of the images of these SMS messages received by Kurdpa, the "Social Deputy and Prevention of Crime of the General Directorate of Justice of Kurdistan Province" sent text messages titled "Notice and Warning" to citizens on Saturday, January 3, 2026, stating:

"In view of the monitoring of your activities in virtual and public spaces, this message serves as a serious warning; therefore, any activity with the intent of acting against national security and any unconventional behavior that causes disruption in the order and public peace of citizens is considered a crime, and you will be subject to criminal prosecution and punishment."
