Mashhad; Yalda Abbasi, renowned Kurdish singer and musician, was arrested after traveling to Iran based on an in-absentia sentence related to “Zhen, Zhian, Azadi” and transferred to Mashhad prison

December 28, 2025; “Yalda Abbasi,” a well-known Kurdish-Khorasani artist and resident of Germany, who had traveled to Iran to renew her passport and visited relevant institutions, was arrested. A case had been filed against her in 2022 in connection with the “Zhen, Zhian, Azadi” revolutionary uprising, and she had been sentenced in absentia to one year of imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the system,” while she herself was unaware of the issuance of this sentence. Following her arrest, Yalda Abbasi was first transferred to a police station and then to the women's ward of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.

An informed source, while confirming this news to Kurdpa, stated: On Saturday, December 25, 2025, Yalda Abbasi visited one of the relevant centers to renew her passport. There, without having been previously aware of this sentence, she was informed that a case had been built against her in connection with the “Zhen, Zhian, Azadi” revolutionary uprising and due to her support for the people. Based on this case, an in-absentia sentence of one year of imprisonment was issued for her by the Evin Prosecutor's Office on the charge of “propaganda against the system.” She was transferred from the passport office to the police station and then to Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad for the execution of the sentence.

Yalda Abbasi is a Kurdish Kurmanji singer and musician from Shirvan in Khorasan Shomali province, who was raised in an artistic family; her mother, “Fatima Esmailiyan,” with the artistic name “Golchehreh,” and her aunt, “Mahbanoo Abbasi,” were well-known figures in the local music of Khorasan. From childhood, she learned Kurmanji singing and from the age of 11, she learned to play the dotar, and later engaged in professional activities in Iran and abroad. Yalda Abbasi is the founder of the women's music group “Nazar” and has had numerous performances with this group. She succeeded in winning the award for best solo performance in Iranian music festivals and has participated in international projects and tours, including the “Arena Tour” of the group Schiller in Iran and Germany. In addition to her artistic activities, Yalda Abbasi is active in cultural and social fields, serving as a cultural ambassador for “Organization Ma” and a member of the board of directors of the Iran-Italy Friendship Association, and has established her position in the professional music scene of Europe, especially Germany, by studying at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan.
