Kermanshah; Saman Fattahi, Kurdish Yarsan Youth and Taekwondo Champion, Another of the January 9 Victims Killed by Live Ammunition
January 18, 2026; “Saman Fattahi,” a Kurdish Yarsan youth and Taekwondo champion, is another of the victims of the January 9, 2026, protests who was killed by the firing of live ammunition by the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic.
Limited information is available regarding this Taekwondo champion; however, his obituary notice, which has been confirmed for Kurdpa, shows that he was the son of Ali and a follower of the Yarsan faith. In this obituary notice, it is stated: “National Taekwondo champion and medalist, member of the national Taekwondo team.”
It is also mentioned in this notice that his burial and memorial ceremony were held at the “Ragheh Sarab Tiran” cemetery in Kuzaran on January 11, 2026.
It has not yet been determined for Kurdpa whether an amount was received from the family for the delivery of this victim's body; however, sources had previously told Kurdpa that for the delivery of the bodies of those killed in Kermanshah, amounts between 700 million Tomans and one billion Tomans have been taken by government institutions, and families have been forced to pay for the delivery of the bodies.
