Bijar; Government Killing of Soran Feyzizadeh as a Result of Torture During Detention and Burial in an Unknown Location

January 16, 2026; “Soran Feyzizadeh,” a Kurdish citizen from Saqqez and resident of Bijar, was detained during the popular protests in Bijar on the evening of January 8, 2026, and was severely wounded due to torture and severe assault and battery during detention. After being hospitalized for one day, he lost his life, and his body was secretly buried by security forces in an unknown location in the city of Saqqez.

According to an informed source to Kurdpa; “Soran Feyzizadeh” was detained on the street by repressive forces on the evening of Thursday, January 8, 2026, during the popular protests in the city of “Bijar” and was severely tortured with batons and repeated beatings during the arrest. As a result of the severity of the injuries sustained, this Kurdish citizen lost his life on Friday, January 9, 2026, in one of the hospitals in Sanandaj.

During his hospitalization in Sanandaj, security forces did not allow the family to visit or meet him, and after the death of this Kurdish citizen, they buried his body secretly and without informing the family in an unmarked location in the city of “Saqqez.” Additionally, his family has been placed under intense pressure to ensure they have no permission for any speaking or news reporting.

It is not yet clear to Kurdpa whether he was transferred to a detention center after the arrest and also subjected to torture there or not.

“Soran Feyzizadeh,” son of Abbas, from Saqqez and resident of Bijar, was married and had two children; one of his children is only three months old.

Previously, an informed source, citing a witness, had told Kurdpa that during the protests of January 8, 2026, in Bijar, at least 8 individuals lost their lives and were transferred to “Besat” Hospital in Sanandaj. Kurdpa is unable to confirm this information but is following up and investigating it.
