15:51 - 4 June 2025

Majid (Najm al-Din) Daryaee, a former political prisoner from Oshnavieh, has been sentenced to one year of discretionary imprisonment by Branch 101 of the Oshnavieh Criminal Court (Second Class) on charges of propaganda in support of opposition groups to the Islamic Republic.

According to an informed source, the sentence was formally delivered to this Kurdish citizen in recent days.

On Wednesday, April 10, 2025, Majid Daryaee appeared before the First Investigation Branch of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Oshnavieh, where he defended himself against the charge of propaganda in support of opposition groups. He was released on temporary bail pending trial.

Earlier, on the evening of January 24, 2018, Majid Daryaee was arrested by security forces during a raid on his home—without a judicial warrant—due to alleged political activities of his son, Akam Daryaee. He had previously received multiple threats of arrest from security agents.

On January 29, 2019, Majid Daryaee and five other citizens from Oshnavieh were collectively sentenced to 16 years and 6 months in prison. Mr. Daryaee received a two-year prison sentence on charges of collaboration with a Kurdish opposition party.

The other individuals and their sentences were as follows:

Fattah Alikard, from the village of Narziyeh: 3 years and 6 months

Younes Sharifi, from Oshnavieh: 3 years and 6 months

Hamed Zarifeh, from the village of Khowrasht: 3 years

Mohammadamin Fazeli, from the village of Bimzerati: 2 years

Mohammad Mahmoodtash, also from Khowrasht: 2 years and 6 months

In a related case, on June 20, 2021, one of Majid Daryaee’s sons, Najib Daryaee, was arrested at his workplace by security forces without a court order. He had previously been detained two weeks earlier and was released after completing the interrogation period.
