15:46 - 4 June 2025

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, Adel Pirouzi, a political prisoner from the village of Sardoush, a rural district of Marivan, was released on furlough from Marivan Prison after posting bail of 200 million tomans (approximately $4,000 USD).

Previously, on Saturday, November 9, 2024, Pirouzi had been transferred to Marivan Prison to begin serving his sentence.

He had been sentenced by the Marivan Revolutionary Court to one year of discretionary imprisonment on charges of propaganda against the regime in favor of a Kurdish opposition party. This verdict was later upheld by the Sanandaj Court of Appeals.

On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Adel Pirouzi was temporarily released from Marivan Prison after posting 300 million tomans in bail.

During his detention, he was denied access to legal counsel and visitation with his family.

Earlier, on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, Pirouzi was summoned by the Marivan Intelligence Office, arrested, and subsequently transferred to the Intelligence Detention Center in Sanandaj for further interrogation under an extended temporary detention order.

On Wednesday, March 25, 2020, Pirouzi—then a political prisoner—was released from Marivan Prison amid the escalating COVID-19 crisis.

Back in November 2018, Adel Pirouzi was arrested on charges of collaborating with a Kurdish opposition party. After two months of detention, he was temporarily released on bail.

For the same charge, he was later sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to two years of discretionary imprisonment and, in winter 2020 (early 2020), was transferred to Marivan Prison to serve his sentence.
