Sanandaj: Zhiyan Miri Sentenced to One Year Suspended Prison Term and Fine

Zhiyan (Mokrat) Miri, an environmental activist from Tangisar village in Sanandaj County, has been sentenced by Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court to one year of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 50 million tomans.

According to a reliable source, the court accused this Kurdish activist of “collaborating with a Kurdish opposition party.”

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, Miri was temporarily released from Sanandaj Prison after posting 500 million tomans in bail.

He had been arrested without a court order on Saturday, January 13, 2025, in the Mesnaw neighborhood of Sanandaj, and was transferred to the Sanandaj Intelligence Detention Center for interrogation.

Over recent years, Zhiyan Miri has been repeatedly summoned and arrested due to his environmental activism.
