Yazd Prison: IRGC Intelligence Blocks Furlough for Khaled Zamani

Despite approval from both the Prison Classification Council of Yazd Central Prison and the city’s prosecutor, Khaled Zamani, a Kurdish political prisoner from Khoy County, has been denied furlough by the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC Intelligence).
According to an informed source, Zamani, who is currently serving the 17th year of his sentence at Yazd Prison, was recently granted permission for furlough and had a bail of 10 billion tomans posted by his family. However, his release was blocked due to opposition from IRGC Intelligence.
Throughout his imprisonment, this Kurdish political prisoner has been denied conditional release and furlough multiple times due to IRGC objections.
Khaled Zamani, son of Yousef, was arrested on July 1, 2008, by security forces. He was held under interrogation for five weeks and subjected to severe physical torture during that time.
He was later sentenced by Branch 1 of the Khoy Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Nowrouzi, on charges of “moharebeh” (waging war against God) through membership in a Kurdish opposition party. The initial sentence included amputation of his left hand and right foot, which was overturned by the Supreme Court following his appeal.
Subsequently, the West Azerbaijan Provincial Court of Appeals sentenced him to 30 years in prison and exile to Yazd Central Prison.
Once the sentence became final, Zamani was transferred from Khoy Prison to Yazd on December 21, 2009.
Khaled Zamani is a co-defendant in the same case as Fasih Yasamani, another Kurdish political prisoner who was executed in Khoy Prison on January 8, 2010.
