Oshnavieh: Kurdish Political Prisoner Mohammad Rasoulpour Receives Additional One-Year Prison Sentence

23:31 - 28 May 2025

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, Mohammad Rasoulpour, a Kurdish political prisoner currently serving a one-and-a-half-year sentence in Oshnavieh Prison, was sentenced to an additional one year in prison in a separate case on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “collaboration with a Kurdish opposition party.”

According to a source familiar with the case, on May 24, 2025, Branch 101 of Oshnavieh Criminal Court II, presided over by Judge Ali Ansari, sentenced Rasoulpour to 4 months in prison for “propaganda against the regime” and 8 months for “collaboration with a Kurdish opposition group.” The court session had been held via video conference on May 19, 2025, and the verdict was issued today.

Rasoulpour has already spent over 5 months in prison serving a sentence from a previous case. Following the opening of the new case, he was denied furlough for six months, and his previous request for transfer to a semi-open prison was rejected by Oshnavieh’s Intelligence Office.

On April 11, 2025, Kurdpa reported that Rasoulpour was tried via video conference on a new charge of “propaganda against the regime,” based on a new indictment separate from his previous case. As a result, he was barred from furlough for six months.

Additionally, on April 8, 2025, Kurdpa had reported that Rasoulpour had been formally charged again and was ordered to appear within five days before Branch 1 of the Prosecutor’s Office for Public and Revolutionary Affairs in Oshnavieh.

A summons dated April 7, 2025, issued by Mirqani Seyedrezaei, the examining magistrate of Branch 1, ordered Mohammad Rasoulpour to appear in court within five days to face the charge of “propaganda in support of anti-regime groups.”

Rasoulpour has made several requests for transfer to a semi-open prison, but all were rejected by the Intelligence Office in Oshnavieh. He has also been deprived of furlough since the reopening of his new case.
