23:27 - 28 May 2025

Mamusta Loqman Amini, the Friday Prayer Leader of the Chehar Yaran Nabi Grand Mosque in Sanandaj, has been held in legal limbo in Hamedan Prison for over a month.

According to a knowledgeable source, this Kurdish cleric has been denied access to legal counsel throughout his detention.

The same source added that Mamusta Amini is in poor physical condition.

On Monday, April 21, 2025, he was arrested after appearing at the Special Court for the Clergy in Hamedan, on charges of “insulting sacred beliefs”, and was transferred to Hamedan Prison under a pre-trial detention order.

Back in June 2023, Mamusta Loqman Amini had been sentenced to 11 years in prison, two years of exile to Ardabil, permanent defrocking, and a ban on delivering Friday sermons. The charges included:

“Propaganda against the regime in favor of a Kurdish opposition party,”

“Possession of a handgun,”

“Incitement to unrest and chaos,” and

“Support for the people and protests of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Woman, Life, Freedom) revolutionary uprising.”

Previously, on Monday, January 30, 2023, Mamusta Amini had been arrested without a court order by security forces on the Marivan highway due to his support for the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising. He was later released on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, on temporary bail pending trial.
