Takab: Continued Summons and Interrogation of Farshad Faraji Following Three Days of Arbitrary Detention and Release on a 3-Billion Toman Bail

23:26 - 28 May 2025

On May 24, 2025, Farshad Faraji, a Kurdish citizen from Takab, continues to face summonses and interrogations by security agencies, despite having been released on a temporary basis after three days of arbitrary and violent detention. He had been charged with "propaganda against the regime" and released on a bail of 3 billion tomans.

According to Hossein Shirzad, a human rights activist from Takab, on Monday, May 19, 2025, Farshad Faraji, son of Hassan, was violently arrested by security forces without a judicial warrant after a raid on his home. During the raid, his phone was confiscated and he was taken to an undisclosed location.

Later, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Mr. Faraji was formally charged with "propaganda against the regime" and was temporarily released on bail pending his trial.

Hossein Shirzad states that during the home raid, security forces conducted a full search, scattered household belongings into the yard, and seized Faraji's mobile phone—which has not been returned following his release.

Shirzad adds that even after his release, on Friday, May 23, 2025, Farshad Faraji was summoned again for interrogation by security forces, and the interrogations are ongoing. He is expected to report to security authorities once again on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

It remains unclear where Faraji was held during the three days of arbitrary detention. The city of Takab lacks official detention centers run by the Intelligence Ministry or the IRGC. Many detainees in the region are initially interrogated at the Office of Public Places (Edareh Amaken), and if detention is prolonged, they are often transferred to security detention centers in Miandoab or Urmia.
