On Monday, May 19, 2025, Vahab Khediripour, a Kurdish citizen, was arrested after being summoned to the Criminal Sentences Enforcement Branch in Mahabad and transferred to the city’s prison to begin serving his sentence.

Mr. Khediripour, a resident of Mahabad, had previously been sentenced to 10 months of discretionary imprisonment by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad on charges of “propaganda against the regime in favor of one of the Kurdish opposition parties.” The sentence was officially communicated to him in early March 2025.

After submitting to the ruling, his sentence was reduced to 8 months.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Mr. Khediripour was temporarily released from detention on bail of 500 million tomans until the end of the judicial process.

Following his interrogation, he had been transferred from the detention facility of the Intelligence Department in Mahabad to the city’s prison.

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Vahab Khediripour was arrested by the Mahabad Intelligence Department after being summoned without a formal written summons.

Previously, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, security forces had raided his home in an attempt to arrest him. However, due to public commotion at the scene, they told him to report to the Mahabad courthouse on Monday, January 27 instead.

Vahab Khediripour is married and the father of two children. He is a cousin of Shomal Khediripour, one of the victims of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) revolutionary uprising. Additionally, the Islamic Republic killed his brother, Sohrab Khediripour, a member of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, in spring 2021.
