Deliberate Power Cut by Government Forces: Over 20 Workers Unemployed and 20,000 Trout Dead at a Workshop and Fish Farm

On May 17, 2025, it was reported that a deliberate power cut carried out by government forces at the “Nahri” sand and gravel workshop and “Nahri” fish farm in Urmia has resulted in the unemployment of over 20 workers and the death of more than 20,000 rainbow trout.

According to a source who spoke to Kurdpa, 11 days ago, without prior notice or warning, military forces from the Ziveh outpost in Urmia entered the Nahri sand and gravel workshop without presenting any judicial or administrative order. In the absence of the workshop owner, they cut off the electricity and took the fuse box, reportedly worth 30 million tomans (approx. USD 500).

Because the Nahri fish farm shared the same fuse, this also resulted in the shutdown of electricity to the farm, causing the death of over 20,000 trout and the sudden unemployment of over 20 workers since that time.

The source stated that the owners of the workshop and fish farm have filed a legal complaint and appointed an attorney for the case. However, they have been denied access to the court, and no justification has been provided for this denial. The owners have repeatedly requested to be allowed into the court at least once to understand the reason behind the authorities’ actions.

According to the Kurdpa source, both the Nahri workshop and fish farm hold legal operating licenses, including official authorization for electricity usage.
