Soheila Motaei, Civil Activist, Summoned to Branch 102 of the Criminal Court in Dehgolan

Soheila Motaei, a civil activist from Dehgolan, has been summoned to Branch 102 of the Second Criminal Court of this city on charges of “propaganda in favor of groups or organizations opposed to the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

According to the official summons issued on May 11, 2025, she must appear in court on May 24, 2025, to present her final defense.

On Monday, March 17, 2025, Motaei was temporarily released on bail of 1 billion tomans. During her detention, she was interrogated at the Intelligence Detention Center in Sanandaj.

She had been arrested earlier on Monday, March 10, 2025, in connection with a ceremony marking International Women’s Day in Sanandaj.

Previously, on January 23, 2025, Soheila Motaei was arrested again by security forces as she left her home, coinciding with the "No to Execution" general strike, and was temporarily released later that day after a court case was opened against her.

During the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) uprising, she was arrested twice and sentenced to prison.

Her first arrest took place on October 1, 2022, and she was released on October 17, 2022, on bail.

She was rearrested on November 12, 2022, and after interrogation, transferred to the Sanandaj Juvenile Correction and Rehabilitation Center.

On December 5, 2022, Branch 2 of the Dehgolan Criminal Court sentenced her to:

18 months imprisonment for “disrupting public order” (primary enforceable sentence),

15 months for “propaganda against the state,”

13 months for “spreading false information and disturbing public opinion,”

5 months for “insubordination to law enforcement,” and

9 months for “propaganda in support of anti-state groups.”

According to sentencing aggregation laws, only the 18-month sentence is enforceable.

Notably, her trial was conducted via a brief video conference hearing.
