On April 24, 2025, Dr. Bayan Salehian, an internal medicine specialist from Saqqez and one of the detainees of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Woman, Life, Freedom) revolutionary uprising, was sentenced by the Urmia Criminal Court to five months of discretionary imprisonment and a fine of 150 million tomans.
She had previously been sentenced in two other cases on charges of "propaganda against the regime," resulting in an additional fine of 60 million tomans.
According to an informed source who spoke to Kurdpa, in a separate case, this specialist physician was sentenced in September 2024 by Branch 1 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court to a fine of 40 million tomans on the charge of "propaganda against the regime."
Furthermore, in another case, on January 13, 2025, Ms. Salehian was sentenced by Branch 111 of the Second Criminal Court Complex (Shahid Beheshti Courthouse) in Urmia, presided over by Judge Farhad Far’manesh, to five months of discretionary imprisonment and a fine of 150 million tomans on the charge of "spreading falsehoods with the intent to disturb public opinion via cyberspace."
This verdict was upheld in its entirety by the Court of Appeals on April 12, 2025.
Although this case also included the charge of "propaganda against the Islamic Republic and in favor of opposition groups," the final ruling was issued solely based on the charge of "spreading falsehoods with the intent to disturb public opinion via cyberspace."
Prior to her conviction in the second case, Dr. Salehian had been summoned in November 2024 to Branch 9 of the Urmia Criminal Court.
Additionally, regarding this matter, she was once summoned by the Intelligence Protection Unit of the Urmia Police Force, where she was interrogated for 10 hours, and her mobile phone was confiscated for a period of four months.
Previously, this specialist physician had also faced another case at the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court. In that case, in July 2023, she was sentenced by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court to eight months of discretionary imprisonment on the charge of "propaganda against the regime through publishing materials on social media," which was later commuted to a fine of 20 million tomans.
Moreover, following these politically motivated cases, in 2023, Ms. Salehian was forced to relocate from Sanandaj to Urmia due to being disqualified through the employment vetting process at the University of Kurdistan.
Bayan Salehian, a citizen of Saqqez, remains one of the detainees from the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi revolutionary uprising.
