Mother of Death Row Political Prisoner Pleads for Help: “My Son Was Abroad During the Incident”

14:27 - 14 April 2025

April 14, 2025 – In recent days, Qazbas Rouzdari, the mother of Hamid Hosseinnezhad, a political prisoner sentenced to death, released a video message calling for the immediate halt of her son’s execution. She says her son was the victim of a fabricated case and forced confessions under torture. According to her, multiple documents confirm that at the time of a “clash” for which her son was accused, Hamid and his family were abroad.

Mother’s Testimony: “My son was in Turkey at the time of the clash.”:

Rouzdari, a native of Chaldoran, says her son Hamid Hosseinnezhad was arrested two years ago and later sentenced to death. She insists that during the alleged incident tied to his case, Hamid was in Turkey with his family. She emphasizes that passport stamps and mobile phone location data can prove this. However, she claims these documents have not been considered in the judicial process.

Torture, Solitary Confinement, and Forced Confession:

According to the mother, Hamid was placed in solitary confinement immediately after his arrest and subjected to 11 months of torture. She says:

“My son is illiterate. They forced him to confess under pressure – a confession he has repeatedly denied.”

The family also protests the lack of access to a fair trial, stating that neither they nor Hamid’s lawyers have been granted full access to his case file.

Denied Contact, Family Visits, and Chosen Legal Representation:

Rouzdari says her son was held for 11 months and 10 days in solitary confinement at security detention centers without any phone calls or family visits. During this period, he was also completely denied access to his chosen lawyer.

A Family Without a Provider:

With a choked voice, Hamid’s mother describes the hardship:

“Four members of his family are now left without a provider. Our days and nights have turned dark. This pain is unbearable for us.”

Mother’s Appeal to Human Rights Organizations:

In closing, Qazbas Rouzdari urges human rights groups, international bodies, and civil society activists to intervene to stop this unjust sentence:

“They are not letting my son defend himself. I ask you to be our voice. Don’t let injustice take the life of an innocent person.”

Full Testimony of Qazbas Rouzdari:

“I am Qazbas Rouzdari, mother of Hamid Hosseinnezhad from Chaldoran. My son has been imprisoned for two years; one of those years passed without a single phone call or visit.

On the day they claim there was a ‘clash’ in Chaldoran, my son and his family were in Turkey.

We have official passport stamps proving entry and exit to Turkey. His mobile phone location can also show exactly where he was at that time. Still, because of that incident, they arrested my son and sent him to solitary.

In solitary confinement, they tortured and pressured him to confess to something he didn’t do. My son is illiterate. He has said multiple times that his confession was forced and false.

We have repeatedly requested a review of the case, but no one is allowing it. Even his lawyers confirmed the case is full of flaws and ambiguities.

Now, four family members are left without a provider. Our lives are darkened by this injustice. I can no longer bear this pain. There’s nothing more I can do. This suffering is unbearable for us.”

Supreme Court Confirms Execution of Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heydranlou:

According to informed sources, Branch 9 of the Supreme Court of Iran has upheld the death sentence against Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heydranlou, a resident of Sagrik village, a district of Chaldoran. The ruling was officially delivered to him in Urmia Central Prison on March 26, 2025.

Hamid was previously arrested on April 12, 2023, by border forces near Chaldoran, and after initial interrogation, was transferred to the Intelligence Ministry’s detention center in Urmia.

He was sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Najafzadeh, on charges of “rebellion” (baghi) and membership in the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The sentence was issued in July 2024 and appealed in August. However, after referral to the Supreme Court, it has now been finalized.
