Kurdpa: One of the protesters seriously wounded by Iranian security forces shooting in the Mahabad unrest died following days of critical condition.

Kurdpa has learned that Akam Talaj from the city of Naghadeh and student at Mahabad Azad University died Monday.

“This afternoon, the officials from “Imam Khomeini” Hospital in Wurme informed Akam’s family of his death”,Talaj’s immediate relative confirmed to Kurdpa.

According to the source, the hospital officials have refrained from giving back the body to his family, fearing another outbreak of unrest in the restive city of Mahabad.

The death of one of the protesters comes at a time when security officials have denied any confrontation with the protesters, claiming the riot forces had used “restraint”.

Talaj was critically wounded during the protest in front of “Tara Hotel” in Mahabad, following the suspicious death of a hotel chambermaid; protesters faced heavy-handed treatment by the Special Forces, which led to the injury of dozens of protesters.

The peaceful protest on May 7, condemning the death of ‘Farinaz Khosrovani’, turned violent following the arrival of special anti-riot forces.

On May 4, 2015, Khosrowani, an employee of the four– star Hotel Tara in Mahabad jumped out of one of the hotel’s windows. She allegedly escaped her rapist, an agent and collaborator of the intelligence ministry.
