Two Kurdish citizens were arrested in Mariwan

Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa): The Iranian Intelligence forces arrested two Kurdish citizens in Mariwan.

According to our reporters, on Friday, August 31, two Kurdish citizens, Sirwan Hooshmand and Mokhtar Walipoor, both of them from Mariwan, were arrested by the Iranain Intelligence Service in Mariwan.

Both detainees were participating in a ceremony being held to commemorate Sharif Bajoor and his companions, who lost their lives in fighting a forest blaze in Mariwan a week ago, when they were arrested.

A few other people have been arrested by the Iranian Intelligence Service in Mariwan during the event, but none of them have yet been identified.

Sirwan Hooshmand and Mokhtar Walipoor have been accused of disobeying public order.

On the 25th of August, four environmental activists, all of them from Mariwan, dead while they were trying to control a blaze at Mariwan forest under control. Sharif Bajoor, Omid Hohnepooshi, Rahmat Hakiminia and Mohammad Pajoohi lost their lives in their effort to tackle a blaze at the forest around Pile and Selsi in Mariwan.

Sharif Bajoor, 47, son of Bayazid, was one of well-known activists in Kurdistan. In 2016, Sharif, in a protesting effort, pedaled all the road from Mariwan to Tehran under the slogan of ‘non-violence is the victorious way of humanity’.

Sharif had several times been arrested by the Iranian Intelligence Service who had been trying to force him to give up his environmental activities.
