Kurdpa Agency: The Kurdish parties of Iranian Kurdistan have increased their activities against the Iranian government this year.
Following the US withdrawal from JCPOA(the Iranian nuclear deal signed by Iran and six major powers in 2015), the leaders of two main Iranian Kurdistan parties, the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan and the Komala party of Iranian Kurdistan held meetings in some think tanks in Washington.
During the meetings, Abdollah Mohtadi, the Secretary General of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan and Mostafa Hejri, the leader of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan delivered speech on ‘Iranian government’s policies and the prospect of Iranian Kurdistan’.
They had been officially invited by the Washington administration which had already withdrawn from JCPOA.
From the early months of this Kurdish year (each year, it begins in first day of spring), the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) has increased the number of its Peshmerga forces all across the Iranian Kurdistan. Heavy clashes between this party’s Peshmerga Forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Oshnavieh, Bookan, Piranshar and Baneh have been reported.
The Kurdistan Freedom Party and the Kurdistan Free Life Party have engaged in armed clashes with the IRGC respectively in Saghez and Mariwan.
On August 12, 2018, a heavy clash took place between the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan’s Peshmerga Forces and the IRGC’s forces in Kelashin on the outskirts of Oshnavieh. A few hours after the clash, Sedigh Darwishi, the Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces’ Deputy Commander told Rudaw Television that they would employ an offensive strategy to attack the IRGC forces.
In reaction to the Kurdish parties’ intensive activities in Kurdistan, the IRGC has deployed more forces equipped with heavy guns to Kurdistan and caused a much heavier security atmosphere.
Soon after the Kurdistan war broke out in early months of the Iranian Revolution in 1979, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps established a headquarter, Gharargaheh Hamzeh, specified to engage in war against the Kurdish opposition groups in provinces like Urmia, Sanandaj and Kermansha.
Gharargaheh Hamzeh has played a key role in the regime’s attacks against the Kurdish parties in Iranian Kurdistan and threatened retaliation against them.
The IRGC has shelled the Kurdistan Regional Government as a strategy against the Kurdish parties. By employing this strategy, they want to put pressure on the KRG to restrict the Kurdish parties’ activities.
Despite the pressures and threats by the IRGC, the Kurdish parties’ political and militant activities in Iranian Kurdistan have increased; and they have emphasized on continuation of their struggle against the regime.
