Kurdpa Agency: New document reveals that the US was aware of the assassination of Kurdish leader, Dr. AbdulRahman Ghassemlou.

According to a report received by Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa), a document from the United States Ministry of Justice by the head of the department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows that the US was aware of the assassination of the prominent Kurdish leader, Dr. AbdulRahman Ghassemlou, the former Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI). The document further reveals that the US had called on the Austrian Authorities to bring the assassins to justice.

In the document, written on 22 August 1989 by the head of the US department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Austrian Government, the US called on the Austrian government to “pursue prompt, official and concrete action to identify and arrest and prosecute” those responsible for the murder.

In the document, the US also states that there is credible evidence that shows that the “Iranian Government and the local Iranian Embassy were involved\" in this \"act of terrorism.” The suspects accordingly “held Iranian diplomatic passport,” and they took “refuge and protection of the local Iranian embassy.”

\"\"Shareef Hazhariy, a Kurdish University lecturer in Sulimanya, Iraqi Kurdistan shared a copy of the document with Kurdpa and stated that he got a hold of the document from a Kurdiologist who happens to work on the Kurdish issue.

This university lecture writes that he got a copy of “this document, copied from the Austrian Foreign Ministry’s documentation on the Ghassemlou murder, in October 1997 from a European expert who works on the Kurdish issue.”

Hazhariy further states that the “United States was aware of the details of the assassination of Dr. Ghassemlou, the prominent Kurdish leader, and even knew who was behind the plot to assassinate him.”

Hazhariy further noted that because of Dr. Ghassemlou’s political position in the world, “the United States has taken action to confront the Iranian Government’s assassinations and called on the Austrian Authorities to end its business with the Iranian government.\"

In the end, this Kurdish lecturer states that \"he has yet to come across a response from the Austria authorities to this letter.\"

On July 13, 1989, Dr. Abdulrahman Ghassemlou, along with Abdullah Qadiri-Azer, and Dr. Fadhil Rasul, were assassinated by the Iranian diplomats during negotiation talks in Vienna, Austria.

Day Press, Austrians newspaper had earlier described the assassination of the Kurdish leader, Dr. Ghassemlou, the former Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) as one of the “darkest times in the history of Austria.”
