Minab Prison; Rejection of Kamal Sharifi's trial in the Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of the country has rejected the retrial of Kamal Sharifi, a political prisoner from Saqez who is serving his 30-year sentence in exile in Minab prison in Hormozgan province.
According to an informed source, last year, the prosecutor of Minab requested a retrial for this political prisoner, but the Supreme Court rejected this request after reviewing Mr. Sharifi's case.
This informed source added: Saqez Intelligence Department prevented Kamal Sharifi from being granted leave and he has been denied the right to leave until now.
This political prisoner suffered a heart attack in Minab prison on March 2, 2021 and was taken to the hospital, but after only four days and against medical advice, he was returned to the prison early.
On March 10, 2021, Mr. Sharifi was transferred to Bandar Abbas Hospital and underwent angioplasty and stenting. After this operation, this political prisoner was returned to Minab prison after two days, despite the need for more hospitalization.
After publishing news related to the situation of this political prisoner in the media and following up on his situation by human rights organizations, in March 2022, the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United Nations Office in Geneva, in a letter to the United Nations, called these news "fake and rumors in "cyberspace" and the representative of the Islamic Republic claimed that this political prisoner is in good physical and mental health in prison, he can benefit from all the facilities and services available to all prisoners, and no prohibitions and restrictions have been imposed on him.
In June 2011, Kamal Sharifi went on a hunger strike in protest against the denial of visits, and on the 48th day of the hunger strike, he was allowed to visit his family for the first time after his arrest, and after meeting his mother in July 2011, he ended his hunger strike.
This Kurdish political prisoner was arrested on May 25, 2008 in Saqez during an armed conflict by the forces of the Ministry of Ettelat and then transferred to the detention center of the Sanandaj Intelligence Department.
He was interrogated for six months without access to any lawyer or meeting his family in the Sanandaj Intelligence Department detention center on the charge of "membership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran".
Kamal Sharifi was sentenced to 30 years in prison and exiled to Minab prison on December 10, 2008 by the first branch of Saqez Revolutionary Court on charges of "fighting through an armed uprising and membership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party" citing articles 186 and 190 of the Islamic Penal Code.
The verdict of the first instance court of this political prisoner on March 16, 2009 in the fourth branch of the Court of Appeals of Kurdistan province was confirmed objectively.
