Kurdish writer in Khorasan sentenced to 74 lashes

Kurdpa Agency: Kurdish poet and journalist sentenced to 74 lashes by Iran.

Based on reports received by Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa), Branch 1 of the Criminal Court in Khorasan, convicted Kurdish journalist and poet “Ali Reza Spahi” to 74 lashes in Khorasan on charges of “insulting regime authorities and officials.”

According to an informed source, this Kurdish poet and journalist is under immense pressure from the regime authorities.

Ali Reza Spahi was summoned by the Public Prosecutors Office, and the Revolutionary Court in “Klat,” Khorasan late last year after publishing an article titled “Ignorance, more powerful than flood.” He was accordingly charged with “disseminating lies, and disturbing public opinion.” Ali Reza Spahi was detained and later released on bail.

This Kurdish poet and journalist was previously incarcerated by the Iran regime forces back in 2000 on charges of “cooperation with Kurdish opposition organizations to the Iran regime.”

He was sentenced by Judge “Qazi Sultani” to 11-month imprisonment, and 5-years absent from any sort of cultural activities.

Ali Reza Spahi, a very well-known writer in Iran has to date published at least 10 books in Kurdish and Persian.
