04:12 - 27 June 2015
Kurdpa: There are growing concerns about the condition of a Kurdish political prisoner on hunger strike.

Kurdpa has learned that Kurdish political prisoner, Alireza Rasouli, who has been kept in solitary confinement in Mahabad Prison is on his 19th day of a hunger strike, and the physical condition of the political prisoner has been reported ‘critical’.

According to a report, Rasouli has refrained from taking solid food since June 11, despite his medical condition and the lack of medical attention.

Rasouli and his family’s request to take the prisoner to a hospital for medical care has fallen on deaf ears.

He has been on hunger strike twice before in Wurme Prison in protest to lack of medical care.

Rasouli went on hunger strike for 49 days in November of 2014, only
breaking his hunger strike following promises by prison officials to meet his demands.

Kurdpa sources confirm that he was transferred from Wurme Central Prison to Mahabad Prison on April 4, 2015.

Rasouli was rounded up along with several others protesters in front of Mahabad Board of Education in support of ‘Shinawe’ school students. He was later charged with aiding Kurdish opposition groups and sentenced to three years in prison.

He is suffering from osteoporosis and tumours in both knees.

On 5 December, 2012, a fire accident in an elementary school in the village of “Shinawe” in the suburbs of the Kurdish city of Piranshahr, Iran’s Wurme (Western Azerbaijan) Province, injured 37 female students. Two of the students died from their burns, while the rest are still struggling with their injuries and lack of proper medical attention and compensation.
