Kurdish Cultural and Political Activists under Pressure from Rawansar Intelligence Office
01:41 - 17 July 2015
Kurdpa: Some of the cultural and political activists in the city of Rawansar have been called to the city’s Intelligence Office for alleged ties to Kurdish dissident political organizations.
Kurdpa has learned that the security office of the city of Rawansar has summoned more than 10 cultural and political activists and questioned them.
One of those summoned told Kurdpa that, “We have been asked to confess to our alleged ties to the Kurdish opposition groups”.
According to the activist, who spoke to Kurdpa on the condition of anonymity, “During the questioning, we were told not to have any contacts with opposition members and activists on social media sites,” he added.
Kurdpa has reported similar pressure by the security offices of Wurme Province in the city of Wurme, and several other cities, where 50 activists were summoned.
Similar pressures were also reported in Sina (Sanadaj in Persian) and Piranshar. In Piranshar, Abed Parvizi, Kurdish teacher was removed from his job for involvement in cultural activities. In Sina, Erfan Saedpana, a Kurdish cultural activist and the head of “Hawraz” Association and a Kurdish language instructor in the city of Sina and Kaweh Khosrwai, a Master’s student at Payam-Nur University in Sina, were called to the city’s Intelligence Office.
Also in June, the US State Department said in its annual report on Iran that the government disproportionately targets minority groups, including Kurds, Arabs, Azeris, and Baluchis, for arbitrary arrest, prolonged detention, and physical abuse.
