Kurdpa - \"A Separation,\" an Iranian film that won a Golden Globe award earlier this month, has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at this year\'s Academy Awards.
Actress Jennifer Lawrence announced the 2012 nominations on January 24 in Los Angeles. Also nominated in the same category were \"Bullhead\" from Belgium, \"Footnote\" from Israel, \"In Darkness\" from Poland, and \"Monsieur Lazhar\" from Canada.
Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi struggled for two years to get approval from the Iranian authorities for the script, which tells the story of an Iranian marriage breaking up.
The government has suggested that the film shows a skewed version of Iran.
Thousands of messages have been posted online by Iranians who expressed pride in Farhadi\'s work.
Martin Scorsese\'s \"Hugo\" leads the Oscars with 11 nominations, including best picture. The silent film \"The Artist\" by French filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius is in second with 10 nominations, also including best picture.
