Kurdpa - A previously unheard of group, called \"movement against the Shiite tide in Syria,\" has claimed responsibility for the abduction of Iranian engineers and technicians in Syria and warned Iran of the consequences of supporting Damascus, the Daily Star reported on Wednesday.

Unidentified gunmen abducted five Iranian engineers and technicians on December 20 and two other Iranian experts on December 21 in the restive Syrian city of Homs.

\"We took upon ourselves the task of detecting and hitting all forms of support provided by both Iran and Hezbollah to the (Syrian government),\" the abductors said in a statement.

The group said the first achievement was \"the detention of five Iranians as an initial warning to Iran and Hezbollah of the consequences of their ongoing support of the (Syrian government) to suppress the blessed Syrian revolution in all parts of the country in general, and in Homs, the heart of the revolution.\"

\"We warn Iran and Hezbollah that their members will face the same fate as the five Iranians if they don\'t immediately stop providing all forms of support to the (Syrian government),\" the group said.

Iranian officials have strongly condemned the abduction of Iranian experts and called on the Syrian government to try to obtain the release of Iranians. Syrian officials have also promised that they will make every effort to identify the abductors and reveal the hidden agenda behind the incident.
