Ejlal Qawami sentenced to eight months imprisonment

Kurdistan Press Agency: A Kurdish journalist, from Sna (Sanandaj), was sentenced to eight months imprisonment based on absent vote in the 109th branch of the Second Criminal Court.

According to reports received by Kurdistan Press Agency, Ejlal Qawami, a Kurdish human rights activist and journalist, from Sna, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment based on absent vote in the 109th branch of the Second Criminal Court. He was convicted of “publication of falsehoods to disturb public opinion”.

The first trial of Ejlal Qawami was held in the second branch of Beheshti Judicial Block on August 20. He was released on 20 million tomans bail after his first trial.

Ejlal’s next trial on charge of ‘propaganda against the regime, to have interview with the opposition media and spreading lies and insults on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)’ is to be held in the forth branch of the Sna’s Appeals Court on November 18, 2018.

Had he been a human rights activist, Ejlal started his career as a journalist in “Iran newspaper” in 2000 and has become one of the most famous Kurdish journalists.
