After 27 years behind bars, Osman Mustafapour rejected amnesty granted by Urmia Prosecutor Office

Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa): The oldest political prisoner who has been serving in Urmia Central Prison rejected an amnesty granted to him by Urmia Prosecutor Office.
According to reliable sources, Osmam Moustafapour, a Kurdish, political prisoner who currently is the oldest political prisoner in Iran rejected an amnesty giving by Urmia Prosecutor Office. Osman, had instead demanded to be temporarily released from jail in order to visit his family outside bars.
“A few days ago, Osman was summoned to Urmia Prosecutor Office. The Public Prosecutor there has asked Osman to sign a paper demanding an amnesty and tried to talk him out of demanding a temporary release”, the source added. Osman had asked for temporary release two months ago.
“Osman has rejected to sign the paper complaining that he had not committed any crime. He has told the Public Prosecutor that singing amnesty paper is not something an innocent should do”, the source explained further.
Osman’s lawyers had previously asked Amnesty and Forgiveness Commission to grant him an amnesty, but the commission had rejected the demand.
After spending more than 27 years behind bars, Osman is still deprived of his legitimate rights like being released on parole and temporary release.
Osman, a Kurdish political activist, from Piranshar (Piranshahr), was arrested by Iranian Intelligence Service in August 1991. Afterward, He was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment on the charge of “membership in a Kurdish, opposition group”. His sentence was changed from 25 to 35 years’ imprisonment by the first branch of Urmia Revolutionary Court five years ago.
