A citizen from Marivan was severely wounded due a mine explosion

Kurdpa Agency: A Kurdish citizen from Mariwan (Marivan) was on Wednesday evening Aguust 9th severely injured by a mine explosion left from the eight-year-old war between Iran and Iraq, according to a report received by Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa).


Kurdpa’s correspondent in the city announced the identity of the Kurdish citizen as “Loghman Hakimi” age 46.

\"\"Kurdpa’s correspondent, further quoting an informed source, reported that “Loghman Hakimi, along with his friends, went to mountain climbing and when trying to gather wood for fireworks, his hands went on a mine which exploded and injured his head, eyes and he lost all of his left-hand fingers and three other fingers from his right hand”. The incident took place around the “Kani Cayar” mountain area.

Loghman Hakimi is currently undergoing medical care at the Fajr Hospital of Marivan, and doctors at the hospital have declared his general condition to be not well.

According to available information, due to the Iran-Iraq war, 6 million hectares of Iranian soil are still not cleared from the mines left during the war. According to statistics, there are more than 20 million mines throughout Iran, including the provinces of Ilam, Kermanshah, Kurdistan and Azerbaijan – this is where the majority of the mines are found in due to security and borderline location.

Iran has not yet joined the Ottawa Convention which prohibits member states from using mines and any weapons that cause and leads to lengthy sufferings. Adoption of the Ottawa Convention will also prevent countries from producing, replanting, and storing mines.
