Mashhad Prison; 49 Days of Arbitrary Detention and Uncertainty for Mohammad-Amin Maftoui, a 16-Year-Old Teenager Under the Support of Welfare Services

February 25, 2026; After 49 days since the arbitrary detention of “Mohammad-Amin Maftoui,” a 16-year-old Kurdish teenager from city of Quchan in Khorasan Razavi Province and one of the children under the support of Social Welfare Services (Behzisti), he has been transferred to the Mashhad Juvenile Correction and Rehabilitation Center following the completion of interrogation and continues to be held in a state of uncertainty. A bail of 5 billion Tomans has been requested for his release.

An informed source, while confirming this news, told Kurdpa: “Mohammad-Amin Maftoui” was detained on January 8, 2026, by security forces without a judicial warrant and transferred to an unknown location. Following the completion of his interrogation, he was moved to the Mashhad Juvenile Correction and Rehabilitation Center and is currently being held there.

According to this source, a bail of 5 billion Tomans has been set for his release, while he has no one other than his elderly mother, who lacks the ability to provide such an amount. His mother had previously placed her children under the support of Social Welfare Services due to her inability to provide guardianship.

Mohammad-Amin has been deprived of the right to access a lawyer during his detention. The source also added that his mobile phone was turned off for a period, and after inquiries, it was discovered that he was in custody.
