Eslamabad-e Gharb; Arbitrary Detention of Khan-Aziz Esmaeili, an Educator from Shabad; Member of the Board of Directors of the Teachers' Union Association of Eslamabad-e Gharb

Sunday, February 22, 2026; “Khan-Aziz Esmaeili,” a Kurdish citizen from city of Eslamabad-e Gharb (Shabad) and a member of the board of directors of the Teachers' Union Association of Eslamabad-e Gharb, was arbitrarily detained and transferred to an unknown location.

The Coordinating Council of Iranian Teacher Trade Unions, while publishing this news, announced: “Khan-Aziz Esmaeili” was detained this morning following a raid by security forces on his home without a judicial warrant and was transferred to an unknown location. According to this report, the mobile phones of all his family members were also confiscated by the security forces.

Pointing to his underlying medical conditions and his need for continuous medical care, the council expressed its concern regarding this arbitrary detention, held the responsible institutions accountable for any potential consequences, and demanded his immediate release.

The statement further noted that this detention occurred while one month ago, “Abdollah Rezaei,” a member of the board of directors of the Teachers' Union Association in city of Harsin, was detained for one month and subsequently released on bail, and during this period, pressure on teacher union activists has increased.
