Ilam; Serious Concern over Continued Detention and Lack of News on the Fate of Brothers; Dr. Nabi and Ali-Akbar Omidi with Broken Nose and Hand During Detention

January 6, 2026; Two days after the arbitrary and violent detention of two Kurdish brothers from Ilam named Dr. Nabi Omidi, associate professor of economics at Ilam University, and Dr. Ali-Akbar Omidi, a political activist, and considering the assaults and fractures sustained at the time of detention, there is serious concern regarding their lives and fate.

Dr. Nabi Omidi, associate professor of economics at Ilam University, and Ali-Akbar Omidi, a political activist, were violently detained by security forces on Sunday, January 4, 2026, without the presentation of a judicial warrant and were transferred to an unknown location.

An informed source told Kurdpa regarding the details of the violent detention of these two brothers: On Sunday evening, security forces, with the aim of detaining Dr. Nabi Omidi, associate professor of economics at Ilam University, raided the homes of his father, brother, and other relatives without presenting a judicial warrant. By using extreme violence, beatings, and physical conflict, they proceeded to detain Dr. Nabi Omidi and his brother, Dr. Ali Omidi. During the arbitrary detention of these two brothers, the security forces treated Dr. Nabi Omidi in a very violent and inhumane manner, brutally torturing him to the extent that his nose and hand suffered severe fractures.

These two brothers have so far been deprived of any right of access to a lawyer, visits, or contact with their families, and their place of custody remains unknown.
