Ilam; Jalal Faramarzi, teacher and cultural activist, subjected to interrogation and heavy case-building for supporting protests; refused to provide a commitment or record a confession video
January 27, 2026; Jalal Faramarzi, a Kurdish teacher from Ilam, was summoned to the Intelligence Organization of the IRGC in Ilam on January 13, 2026, after publishing a protest video in which he declared he was no longer willing to tolerate the current situation and the violation of human dignity, and called on his colleagues to strike. Following this summons, a legal case with heavy charges has been built against him because he did not agree to provide a commitment or record a video approved by security agencies (forced confession).
During the interrogation, all of his electronic devices were seized without any legal warrant and remain in the possession of the IRGC intelligence forces.
An informed source, while confirming this news to Kurdpa, stated: This Kurdish teacher was interrogated for several hours, and subsequently, a heavy judicial case was built against him in court. According to this source, his refusal to provide a commitment and record a forced confession video was the main reason for the escalation of security pressure and the formation of a heavy judicial case against him.
The source added: Jalal Faramarzi had previously faced a case during the "Zhen, Zhian, Azadi" revolutionary uprising for protesting and standing with the people, and was sentenced to 5 years of suspended imprisonment. Furthermore, security forces of the IRGC Intelligence Department and judicial authorities have threatened him that his previous case will be reopened. In 2022, in support of popular protests, he had sealed the door of the Department of Education with mud.
In the video he previously published, Jalal Faramarzi stated: “I am not dishonorable. You have ruined everything; our proud and dear Iran. I am Faramarzi, I am a teacher, and before being a teacher, I am a human being and I belong to this very homeland. I am no longer willing to tolerate these conditions. We are human, and our lives have value, and I cannot live without honor. You took everything from us; you took our youth and our lives and were never accountable. I am a protester. My colleagues, where is your dignity? Is human dignity not with you? I am unable to continue this situation, and for this reason, from this moment forward, I will refrain from attending class and being alongside my dear students. Farewell.”
Kurdpa obtained this information in a conversation with a source close to this Kurdish teacher. According to this source, poor internet conditions and people's fear of digital surveillance have prevented access to further details regarding the case, the involved institutions, and the exact charges leveled against him. The source also confirmed that the aforementioned video was previously published on an Instagram page and confirmed him.
