Abdanan; Mass and Violent Detention of 9 Kurdish Citizens and Lack of News Regarding Their Fate
January 9, 2026; In the continuation of the wave of arbitrary detentions aimed at imposing an atmosphere of repression and security over society following the popular protests that began in January 2026, nine Kurdish citizens from Abdanan, a suburb of Ilam Province, named “Rahmat Rashidi,” “Behrouz Sheikhi” (29 years old), “Ashkan Sabzi,” “Arman Karami,” “Areff Mirzaei,” “Amirhossein Khan-Mohammadi,” “Ali Ahmadi,” “Armin Pirani,” and “Mostafa Saffar” were detained by security forces without the presentation of a judicial warrant and transferred to an unknown location.
Reports indicate that “Rahmat Rashidi,” a cafe owner, faced a raid on his cafe during his detention by security and repressive forces, during which the security forces proceeded to severely destroy the premises and break all its equipment.
Until the publication of this report, there is no information available regarding the fate and place of custody of these detainees.
