17:58 - 28 April 2025

Afshin Hosseinpanahi, a civil activist and former political prisoner, has been summoned to Branch One of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court.

According to the summons he received, Hosseinpanahi is required to appear before the court on April 29, 2025. The summons does not specify the charges brought against him.

On February 29, 2025, Hosseinpanahi was temporarily released from detention upon posting bail pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings. During his detention, he was held at Shahramfar Detention Center in Sanandaj, where he was subjected to interrogation and denied access to legal counsel and family visits.

Hosseinpanahi was initially arrested on January 9, 2025, when security forces raided his workplace without presenting a judicial warrant. Subsequently, the security forces also raided his home and conducted a search.

Prior to his arrest, Hosseinpanahi had been summoned to the Intelligence Office’s Information Unit in Sanandaj.

Over the past 15 years, Afshin Hosseinpanahi has faced repeated arrests and summonses by security agencies. According to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to Kurdpa, he has been subjected to torture and ill-treatment during his periods of detention.

Hosseinpanahi was previously arrested on June 26, 2017, three days after the arrest of Ramin Hosseinpanahi, at his private residence by security forces. In May 2022, Branch One of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Saeedi, sentenced him to one year of imprisonment on charges of "propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran."

In addition to his civil activism, Hosseinpanahi has a background of cooperation with environmental organizations. In November 2017, Branch One of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, again presided over by Judge Saeedi, sentenced him to eight and a half years in prison on charges related to "organizing Nowruz celebrations and collaborating with a Kurdish political party." He was ultimately released on April 26, 2020, after nearly three years of imprisonment, under a conditional pardon.

Previously, in 2011, Hosseinpanahi was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of "propaganda against the state" after pursuing the case surrounding the suspicious death of his brother, Ashraf Hosseinpanahi. He was released following the completion of his sentence.
