Oshnavieh: Political Prisoner Mohammad Rasoulpour Faces New Sentence for “Propaganda Against the Regime” and 6-Month Denial of Leave

Following a new court notice and a separate indictment from his original case, Mohammad Rasoulpour, a political prisoner held in Oshnavieh Prison, was tried today, April 11, 2025, via video conference from inside the prison. He was charged with “propaganda against the regime” and was sentenced to a six-month ban on prison leave.
New Charges Amid Ongoing Imprisonment:
On April 8, 2025, the Kurdish human rights outlet Kurdpa reported that Rasoulpour—a Kurdish political prisoner from Oshnavieh, currently serving a 1.5-year sentence and having already spent over four months in prison—had been formally accused of new propaganda-related charges, and ordered to appear at Branch 1 of the Oshnavieh Prosecutor’s Office within five days.
According to a source cited by Kurdpa, an official summons dated April 7, 2025, issued by Mirnaghi Seyedrezaei, the prosecutor of Branch 1, instructed Rasoulpour to appear and respond to allegations of “propaganda in favor of anti-regime Kurdish opposition groups.”
Repeated Rejection of Semi-Open Prison Requests:
Rasoulpour has repeatedly requested transfer to a semi-open prison, but each time his request was denied by the Oshnavieh Intelligence Office.
Background: Arrest and Sentencing:
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, Mohammad Rasoulpour was transferred to Oshnavieh Prison to begin serving a 1 year and 6 months sentence for alleged affiliation with Kurdish opposition parties and propaganda against the regime.
His initial arrest took place on the evening of Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in Kohneh Qaleh village, a district in Oshnavieh, when security forces detained him without a warrant.
He was held in pretrial detention for 12 days and then temporarily released on July 14, 2024, after posting 600 million tomans bail (~12,000 USD), pending trial.
Original Sentence and Reduction:
In Mehr 1403 (October 2024), the Revolutionary Court of Oshnavieh, presided over by Judge Ali Ansari, sentenced Rasoulpour to two years of prison for “affiliation with Kurdish opposition parties and propaganda against the regime.”
The sentence was later reduced to 1 year and 6 months based on Article 442 of the Iranian Criminal Procedure Code.
