Farhad Salimi, a Kurdish prisoner of conscience, was executed in Qezelhesar prison in Karaj

16:32 - 24 January 2024

On Wednesday morning, January 23, the death sentence of Mamusta Farhad Salimi, a Kurdish prisoner of conscience, was carried out after 14 years of imprisonment in Qezelhesar prison in Karaj.

On January 20, this Kurdish prisoner of conscience, who had been on hunger strike for three weeks, was transferred to solitary confinement.

On December 31, 2023, Anwar Khezri, Kamran Sheikheh, Khosrow Besharat, and Mamusta Farhad Salimi, four prisoners of conscience sentenced to death, went on a dry hunger strike following the transfer of Davoud Abdollahi to solitary confinement for the execution of his death sentence and the serious risk of their execution.

On January 2, the death sentence of Davoud Abdollahi, a prisoner of conscience, was carried out in Qezelhesar prison in Karaj after a week of being transferred to solitary confinement. Also, the death sentences of Qasem Absteh and Ayoub Karimi, other Kurdish prisoners of conscience, were executed in Qezelhesar prison on November 5 and November 29, 2023

After the execution of Qasem Absteh and Ayoub Karimi, the security agencies told the families of other prisoners to remain silent until they at least received the bodies of the executed.

The case of these prisoners is very vague and full of legal flaws and unfair judicial process. So far, no lawyer has seen their case and the prisoners themselves have repeatedly stressed that their sentences were the result of forced confessions under torture and months of detention and interrogation in solitary confinement.

These prisoners of conscience were sentenced to death in a joint case on charges of "corruption on earth". After 14 years of imprisonment, the death sentences of Qasem Absteh, Ayoub Karimi, and Davoud Abdollahi were executed in Qezelhesar prison in Karaj.
