Urmia prison; a prisoner sentenced to amputation of his fingers committed suicide and lost his life

In the early morning of Wednesday, January 17, 2024, Amir Shahbazi, a prisoner sentenced to amputation of his fingers in solitary confinement in Urmia prison, committed suicide by taking pills and lost his life.

According to an informed source, this 37-year-old prisoner from Urmia lost his life due to the delay in being transferred to the hospital.

The informed source added: Amir Shahbazi was transferred to solitary confinement by the order of the disciplinary council of Urmia prison on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, on the pretext of "finding a mobile phone".

The informed source stated: This prisoner sentenced to amputation of his fingers had announced to the prison authorities that he would commit suicide if he was transferred to solitary confinement.

Amir Shahbazi was arrested in 2016 on charges of "theft" and later sentenced to amputation of four fingers of his right hand by the criminal court of Urmia.
