09:54 - 7 January 2024

Security agents at Khomeini Airport in Tehran prevented Hassan Amini, the popular Sharia judge of Kurdistan, and Hashem Hosseinpanahii, a Kurdish religious activist, from traveling to Qatar to participate in the sixth general assembly of the World Union of Muslim Scholars.

Security forces prevented Hassan Amini and Hashem Hosseinpanahi from boarding the plane without presenting any evidence preventing them from traveling and confiscating their passports.

The office of the Sharia Court of Kurdistan announced: "Considering that there is no legal document to prevent this trip, and they did not have a judicial case before and were not banned from leaving the country by any judicial authority, this arbitrary action of the security agencies is devoid of any religious and legal justification."

The text of the statement of the office of the Sharia Court of Kurdistan regarding the prevention of Hassan Amini and Hashem Hosseinpanahi from traveling to Qatar and the confiscation of their passports is as follows:

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Following the invitation of the World Union of Muslim Scholars from the popular Sharia judge of Kurdistan, Professor Kak Hassan Amini, as a member of the union, to participate in the sixth general assembly, which will be held from January 6 to 11, 2024 in Qatar, they went to participate in this assembly.

Considering their old age and physical condition, Kak Hashem Hosseinpanahi, one of their students, also accompanied them only as a companion.

But at Imam Khomeini International Airport, despite going through all the legal stages getting the exit stamp on their passports getting the flight card, and delivering the bag to the cargo section, by the plainclothes agents, without presenting any reason and order, they were prevented from boarding the plane and prevented them from traveling and their passports were confiscated.

Considering that there is no legal document to prevent this trip, and they did not have a judicial case before and were not banned from leaving the country by any judicial authority, this arbitrary action of the security agencies is devoid of any religious or legal justification.
