The Joint statement human rights organizations of Iran regarding the torture and deprivation of the designated lawyer of the Azerbaijani Turkish political and human rights activists detained in Iran
Today November 26, 2023, three months have passed since several political and human rights activists of the Turkish Azerbaijani in various cities of Iran were arbitrarily and violently arrested by the security agencies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and are still under physical and psychological torture in detention without access to a lawyer and without knowing the exact charges. The families of these activists have also been harassed and threatened by the judicial and security agencies. The security agencies, in addition to harassing and torturing these activists, prevent these activists from accessing medical services after inflicting physical and mental damage on them during the detention period.
Morteza Nourmohammadi Nazarlou on September 9, 2023; Davoud Shiri, Ali Babaei, Arash Ebrahimnejad, Javad Soodbar, Amir Hossein Aghaei, Seyed Mohammad Reza Mowahed on September 13, 2023; Mehrdad Ghaderi on September 15, 2023; Babak Rahmati on September 16, 2023; Hossein Azadi on September 23, 2023; in the city of Tabriz were arbitrarily arrested by the security forces with beating. The exact charges against these activists, except for Morteza Nourmohammadi Nazarlou, who was accused of "propaganda against the Islamic Republic system" and "membership in groups", are not known.
Also, Ebrahim Avazadeh on September 30, 2023, in Tehran, Saber Hosseinzadeh on October 15, 2023, in Azarshahr (Turfaraghan) city of East Azerbaijan, Armita Pavir, a molecular student of Shahid Madani University of Azerbaijan on September 18, 2023, in Tabriz, Naser Razmjoo on October 21, 2023, in the city of Ardabil, Parastoo Faridi, a mechanical engineering student of Tabriz University on November 4, 2023, in Tabriz, Ayat (Yursh) Mehr Ali Bigloo on November 7, 2023 in the city of Gargar (Hadishahr) of East Azerbaijan and Hamed Yeganepour on November 8, 2023 in the city of Tabriz were arbitrarily arrested.
The Human Rights Institution of the Azerbaijani People in Iran - Ahraz, along with the Iranian human rights organizations that sign this statement,
while condemning the arbitrary arrest, torture, and harassment of these activists and their families by the security and judicial agencies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, demand the immediate release of these activists, and their access to a lawyer and medical facilities.
