23:28 - 31 December 2023

Davoud Abdollahi, a Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death in Qezelhesar prison, has been on a full hunger strike since Tuesday, December 26, 2023, following his transfer to solitary confinement for the execution of his death sentence.

According to an informed source to Kurdpa; On Saturday, December 30, Abdollahi's family announced his execution and went to Karaj, but there, they realized that their son was in danger of being executed and had been on a full hunger strike for the past five days.

The informed source added; that Davoud Abdollahi told his family during the meeting that his death sentence would be executed on Monday, January 1, 2024, or on Friday, January 5, 2023.

The information received by Kurdpa indicates; that Abdollahi's family is very worried about his execution. On the other hand, due to the repeated lies of the security agencies to this family regarding his execution and also the case of Ayoub Karimi, another executed prisoner who had said that his death sentence had been canceled and his case had been transferred to Mahabad, but after 4 days he was executed; Abdollahi's family are under high psychological pressure.

After 14 years in prison, the death sentences of Davoud Abdollahi's two co-defendants, Ghasem Abesteh and Ayoub Karimi, were executed on November 5 and November 29, 2023, in Qezelhesar prison in Karaj.

Davoud Abdollahi was arrested on December 7, 2009, along with six other Kurdish citizens named Ghasem Abesteh, Anwar Khezri, Ayoub Karimi, Farhad Salimi, Kamran Sheikheh, and Khosrow Besharat from the cities of Saqqez and Mahabad by security forces and interrogated for eight months in the Urmia Intelligence Detention Center.

These seven Kurdish political prisoners were then transferred to Evin prison and after six months of interrogation, they were transferred to Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj on April 14, 2012.

In February 2016, these seven Kurdish prisoners were sentenced to death for "acting against national security", "propaganda against the system", "membership in Salafi groups" and "corruption on earth" by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge "Moqiseh" and this verdict was officially notified to them on May 25, 2016.

After the protest of these seven political prisoners, this verdict was overturned by the Supreme Court at the end of 2016 and referred to Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge "Salavati" for retrial.

In June 2018, these seven political prisoners were sentenced to death for "corruption on earth" and crimes related to national security and despite numerous serious violations of the rules of a fair trial, on February 3, 2020, Branch 41 of the Supreme Court confirmed the verdicts issued against these seven prisoners and in September 2020, Branch 38 of the Supreme Court rejected their request for a retrial.

These seven Kurdish political prisoners were transferred to Qezelhesar prison in August 2023 after the closure of Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.
