The prison sentence of Mojgan Kavousi was confirmed by the Supreme Court
The prison sentence of Mojgan Kavousi, a researcher and one of the activists of linguistic and ethnic rights from Kelardasht, Mazandaran, was confirmed by the ninth branch of the Supreme Court.
On January 3rd, 2023, this researcher was released from Qaemshahr prison after spending 104 days in temporary detention and being acquitted of the charge of "corruption on earth" by posting a bail of three billion tomans
Mojgan Kavousi was sentenced by the first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Sari to 39 months in prison for "gathering and colluding against national security", to 15 months and one day in prison for "insulting the leader", and to 8 months in prison for "propaganda against the system" and was acquitted of the charge of "corruption on earth".
According to the law, the most severe punishment of 39 months in prison with the calculation of previous detention days is applicable for this Kurdish writer.
On December 20th, 2022, the first session of the trial of this political prisoner was held in the first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Sari with the presence of Osman Mazin and Maziar Tatayi, lawyers of her case, and in addition to the previous charges, she was also accused of "corruption on earth".
Ms. Kavousi was accused in the Noshahr court of "insulting the leader of the Iranian government", "spreading lies", "propaganda against the system", "inciting and provoking people to war and killing to disrupt national security" and "cooperating with hostile states". The acceptance of a lawyer for Mojgan Kavousi's case was opposed at the court stage.
On September 22, 2022, this Kurdish activist was arrested at her home by security forces and after completing the interrogation period, she was transferred to Tonekabon prison.
Mojgan Kavousi had a previous conviction and on January 5th, 2023, she was released from Karaj's Kachooei prison with a leave connected to freedom.
