Iranian engineers abducted in Syria are safe and sound

Kurdpa - Iranian ambassador to Syria said the abducted Iranian engineers in Damascus are safe and sound. \"Based on the received information, all kidnapped technicians of our country are totally safe and sound,\" Mohammad Reza Sheibani told reporters.

He added the Islamic Republic of Iran has used all of its capabilities to release the abducted technicians.

According to the Iranian representative, a joint Iranian-Syrian team is pursuing details of the issue precisely and continuously.

\"All ways which facilitate early release of the Iranian nationals are on the agenda of the team and God willing we would witness their release soon.\"

Also Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem in a phone call Sunday stressed Syrian government\'s further efforts to obtain the release of Iranian abductees.

Salehi in a phone call with Muallem condemned recent explosions in Syria and extended his sympathy to the Syrian nation and government over the recent terrorist incidents.

Walid Muallem for his part had stressed Syrian government would make best efforts to obtain the release of the Iranian abductees.

Eight technicians including five Iranian electrical engineers were kidnapped by unknown armed gunmen on their way to a power plant in the troubled Syrian city of Homs last Tuesday.

The technicians have been building the city\'s Jandar power plant for the past two years.

Iranian engineers and experts are currently implementing development projects in Syria, valued at more than 1.7 billion dollars.

Last Wednesday, Iran\'s embassy in Damascus issued a statement calling on the Syrian government to take immediate action for the release of five abducted Iranian engineers and identify the abductors.
