Tehran; Ribwar Marabi, Kurdish Youth and December Detainee, Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison
June 28, 2026; “Ribwar Marabi,” a 27-year-old Kurdish youth from Kamyaran residing in Tehran, who was detained during the December 2025 protests, has been sentenced to 10 years of discretionary imprisonment. This sentence was subsequently modified on appeal to 6 years of enforceable imprisonment and a 4-year suspended sentence.
According to findings obtained by Kurdpa along with some case documents, Ribwar Marabi was initially sentenced in February 2026 to 10 years of discretionary imprisonment by Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge “Mohammad Reza Amouzadeh,” on charges of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security.” Following an appeal against this verdict, Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals at the Shahid Soleimani Judicial Complex modified the ruling to 6 years of enforceable imprisonment and a 4-year suspended sentence.
Ribwar Marabi was arrested by security forces without a judicial warrant on January 11, 2026, and transferred to the Greater Tehran Prison. After more than a month in detention, he was temporarily released from the Greater Tehran Prison in March 2026 upon posting bail. Throughout his period of arbitrary detention, he was denied access to a lawyer, family visitations, and telephone calls.
Ribwar Marabi, a 27-year-old Kurdish youth from “Marab” village in the suburbs of Kamyaran, Kurdistan Province, resides in Tehran and has been working as a head chef in a restaurant for several years.
