August 31, 2026; A wildfire that broke out on the afternoon of Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the Bozin and Marakhil protected area as well as Targarhan in Paveh County continues for a second consecutive day. The blaze was largely brought under control on Sunday evening through the efforts of local volunteers and environmental activists; however, it reignited and remains active. In recent hours, a team of environmental activists from the "Zhivai Paveh" association was dispatched to the area to assist in containment operations.

The head of the Department of Environment in Paveh County confirmed the ongoing fire in statements to state media, noting that dense vegetation, strong winds, and rugged terrain have facilitated the spread of the flames, requiring continuous firefighting efforts. He cited lightning as the cause of the fire and added that service crews, emergency personnel, environmental associations, and local volunteers are actively working to extinguish it.

The Bozin and Marakhil Protected Area, spanning approximately 25,000 hectares, was designated as a protected zone in 1999 and represents one of Kermanshah Province's valuable natural reserves. Rich in biodiversity, the region hosts plant species such as wild pistachio, wild almond, wild olive, wild cherry, myrtle, and oleander, and serves as a vital habitat for the roe deer (shuka).
